Bittner
Robert P.

Age 76, of Hampton Twp., passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Beloved husband for over 20 years to Hongwei (Nie) Bittner; Loving stepfather of Josh Oster (Veronica) and Yanpei Ai (Miranda); Proud grandfather of Beau and Elouise; Brother of Dave Bittner, Tom Bittner, Marilyn Birkner and Ed Bittner; Rob is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Pittsburgh native, Robert grew up in Mount Washington and received a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Carnegie Mellon University. Robert enjoyed a long career in technology and software in a wide variety of areas such as NMR research, oil field detection, medical record archiving, cybersecurity and even mail sorting. Robert enjoyed entertainment in many forms. He was a patron of the arts with season tickets to both the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Public Theater, of which he was a supporter since their earliest days. Over the years he enjoyed basketball, tennis, skiing, and especially golf. In quiet moments, Robert enjoyed reading novels, especially histories, and doing the crossword. He was no stranger to the television either, following many different series and watching professional sports. Robert was a diehard fan of the Penguins and the Steelers; he never missed March Madness, and nearly every weekend would be spent enjoying the latest golf tournament with a glass or two of scotch.

Friends will be received on Saturday, April 19th from 2-6PM at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, INC. 806 Perry Hwy., Pgh, PA 15229

As Miranda’s parents we were lucky and fortunate to get to know Rob through her and through our holiday dinners that we got to spend with him, Hongwei, Yanpei and Miranda. We discovered that not only was Rob a very intelligent man he was also a very good cook. Meat , mashed potatoes and very delicious handmade pies. How lucky were we. We also found out that Rob and I had a McHugh connection. His mother was a McHugh and so am I. Small world. We will sadly miss him and our time we would have spent together in the future.
