Richard Frederick Gombert, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 9 at Cumberland Crossing Manor in Pittsburgh. Richard was born November 20, 1932 in Quakertown, PA. Upon graduating from Drexel University, where he met his loving wife Barbara, Richard joined the U.S. Marine Corps as an officer and became a helicopter pilot. In 1976 he moved from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh and soon considered Allison Park his home. He enjoyed traveling, the theater, all things chocolate, the Steelers and his favorite aria Offenbach’s Barcarolle. In addition to his wife of 61 years, Barbara, Richard is survived by a son Michael and daughter-in-law Kim and a daughter Susan. Donations may be made to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
