On January 1, 2009, after a brief illness and surrounded by his family. Born May 17, 1944 in Bridgeport, CT. Raised in Stratford, CT. Graduated from Stratford High School in 1962. During that time, Dick was a delegate to the YMCA World Youth Conference held in Amsterdam Netherlands in 1960 which included attendance at the 1960 Rome Olympics. Upon graduation, matriculated to Bethany College, in Bethany, WV, where he received a BA degree in economics and graduated in 1966. Dick began his career at Dravo Corp., Neville Island, PA working in the field of Personnel Labor Relations, and Risk Management. Dick became an Employee Relations Supervisor for the Keystone Division of the corporation in 1970. He advanced through the human resources function until 1983 when the corporation closed. He continued his career as Director of Human Resources at Duquesne University until his retirement in June 2006. During his career he served on the Board of Trustees of Achieva (formerly ARC Allegheny) which is Western Pennsylvania’s largest provider of lifelong services and support for people with disabilities and their families. Dick was an avid outdoorsmen involved in all types of hunting and fishing with a passion for fly fishing and duck hunting. He also served on the Board of Directors for Millvale Sportsmen Club serving as membership chair. He was a dedicated parent never missing any event in which his children participated. He was preceded in death by his parents (J. Earl and Mildred), his sister (Gail Martin) and his brother (Bruce). He is survived by his beloved wife Linda, his loving children, Matthew (Gina), James (Quita) and Karen. The joy of “Pap’s” life were his grandsons, Ethan, Mason, Taylor and Camden. Visitation will be Sunday 7-9 pm and Monday 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME OF CRANBERRY 268 Rochester Rd., 724-772-8800, where a Blessing Service will be held Tuesday 12:30. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Achieva, 711 Bingham Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203.
