Philomena Romano, 92, formerly of Ross Township, passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. Born April 22, 1918, in Altavilla Milicia, Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Isabella (Culotta) Manzella. She was a former employee of Allegheny General Hospital, and a longtime member of ISDA Morning Star Lodge. Philomena was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Romano Jr.; a brother, Anthony Manzella; and a sister, Ann Manzella. She was the loving mother of two sons, Michael A. Romano, of Mt. Lebanon, and Joseph (Christine) Romano, of Greensburg; and the adoring Nonna of her two grandchildren, Megan Romano, of Seattle, Wash., and David Romano, of Millvale. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Manzella, Petrina Henderson and Josephine Donahue; two sisters-in-law, Alice Manzella and Anna Romano; a brother-in-law, Jim Romano; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, PA 15229. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Sebastian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Anne’s Home, 685 Angela Drive, Greensburg, PA 15601 or to the ISDA Scholarship Fund, 419 Wood St., Pittsburgh, PA 15222. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Anne’s Home for their loving care of Philomena these past few years, and Dr. Jacobson and the staff of 1D at Westmoreland Hospital for their many kindnesses.
