Philip J. Myers born December 27,1933 to Francis and Marguerite Myers in McKee Rocks PA, died peacefully in Summit N.J. surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Mary Joanne Myers and his 7 children: Phil Myers(Diane) of Phoenix AZ, Michelle Audsley Myers of San Francisco CA, Kevin Myers(Wendy) of Phoenix AZ, Mary Myers(deceased), Mary Beth Johnson(Matt) of Summit NJ Sean Myers(Amy) of Dallas TX and Maggie Songer(Aaron) of Philadelphia PA.  Philip had 16 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.  He is survived by one brother, Colonel James Myers(Billie Ann) of Goldsboro, NC.  Phil is also brother to Marguerite Pilcher(deceased) and Francis Myers(deceased).

Born and raised in McKees Rocks PA. Phil attended St. James High School in the West End where he met Joanne, his high school sweetheart.  Phil graduated from Duquesne University in 1956 with a degree in Industrial Design and worked for US Steel in Pittsburgh for 20 years.  Phil and Joanne had 7 children in 14 years.  They started their young married life in Ingram where Joanne and Phil were active members of St. Philips Catholic Church in Crafton PA.  They spent 8 happy years in their first home moving to the North Hills in 1966.  Phil changed jobs to Johnson Bronze in New Castle PA and subsequently to the US Postal Service working as the Finance Director for Pittsburgh.  Phil and Joanne were active members of the St. Sebastian Catholic Parish eventually serving as Eucharistic Ministers.

“Phil”, “Dad”, “Pappap” is remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and adored grandfather who made family and faith the center of his life.  He will be celebrated as a man who found meaning and purpose in small acts of kindness, presence, love and laughter to the people around him:  “in a gentle way you can shake the world.”    He taught others through his actions and choices in life.  The things that made his heart sing:  swimming, body surfing, dancing, fixing things, eating dinner with his family at 6 p.m. every night, worshipping the sun, music, being an expert packer with the heightened gift of spatial awareness, having a keen sense of direction as well as being a dedicated fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pirates, the Penguins, Penn State, Occidental, Delbarton, St. Mary’s, Princeton and Amherst, enjoying his home town sports and watching his grandchildren play for their universities.

Family and friends will be received Friday, Jan. 18 from 2-4, 6-8 at Devlin Funeral Home Inc., 806 Perry Hwy., North Hills.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 19 at 10 am at St. Sebastian Church, 311 Seibert Road, Pittsburgh PA, 15237.
