Mary Regina Cannon Malone, proud daughter of the North Side of Pittsburgh, and much beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away with her family surrounding her on Wednesday, August 10, 2016. Born on September 13, 1930, she graduated from Oliver High School a year early, during which time she worked as a clerk at Boggs & Buhl. Upon graduation, she secured a position with U.S. Steel as an executive assistant. She married Robert J. Malone (aka “Bob-never a charge for advice”) 66 years ago. Together they raised five children, Michael J. Malone (Susan), David J. Malone (Nancy), MaryAnne Shreckengast (Keith), Robert E. Malone (Katherine) and Paul G. Malone (Madeline). She is survived by 15 grandchildren including Zach, Ian (Edie), Leah (Mike), Max, Callie, Megan, Jane, Margo, Devin, Shannon, Mary, Bobby, Patrick, and Maggie, and great-grandson Porter. She was predeceased by her father, John Cannon, her mother, Mary Bestic Cannon, and brothers Jack (Elma), Bob (Grace) and Jim (Regina). Mary served as a Christian Mother at St. Teresa of Avila and volunteered for Passavant Hospital and Meals on Wheels. She spent many an hour at Highland Country Club which her children and grandchildren fondly referred to as “Grandma’s restaurant.” Friends will be received at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 806 Perry Hwy., Pgh, PA 15229 on Friday, August 12th from 2-4 & 6-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Teresa of Avila Church on Saturday at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to Alzheimer Association at alz.org or the Joseph Massaro Alzheimer’s Research Fund at pittsburghfoundation.org/Massaro.
