Mary Kay Salkeld of Ben Avon died peacefully on Saturday, May 20, 2017, surrounded by the most important people in her life–her devoted family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband and best friend of more than 40 years, Raymond C. Salkeld; her son, Daniel Salkeld; her sister, Eileen McGivern; and her brother, Thomas McDonald. In addition to Daniel, she was a beloved mother to Karen Simpson of McCandless, Michael Salkeld of Ben Avon; Kathy (Rick) Salkeld Euler of Franklin Park; David (Karen) Salkeld of Raleigh, NC; and Maureen (Jay) Redman of Davie, FL. Mary Kay was known as the “fun Grandma” to her 17 grandchildren, Sharon (Marc) Simpson Jones; Mark (Theresa) Simpson; Erica (Nick) Simpson Strader; Meg (Eric) Simpson Cohen; Joseph, Thomas (Melissa), Timothy (Candice) and Ryan (Rachel) Salkeld; Kathleen Cecelia and Raymond Euler; Eliza, Keenan and Raymond Salkeld; Jason Redman, Jennifer (Scott) Redman Leonard, and Raymond and Shannon Redman. She was also known as GiGi to her ten great-grandchildren. Mary Kay was born Mary Catherine McDonald to Cecelia (Lally) and Peter McDonald in Pittsburgh. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and derived strength from her strong Catholic faith. She became a successful realtor at Hosack Realty and was one of the original realtors at Coldwell Banker, specializing in commercial real estate. She was also a member of Sacred Heart parish in Emsworth. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., in Ross, is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Emsworth on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 10 a.m. Interment will be private for family members. In lieu of flowers, please honor Mary Kay Salkeld with a contribution in her name to Sacred Heart Parish, 154 Orchard Ave., Pgh, PA 15202 or to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678.
