Mary Ann (Montgomery) Appelt passed away unexpectedly on January 3, 2025. Mary Ann was born on May 19, 1937 to David and Mary Montgomery. She grew up in Avalon and graduated from Avalon High School in 1955. She was always involved in school activities and especially loved cheerleading. Mary Ann married her soulmate and love of her life, William, on August 24, 1957. They had 67 wonderful years of marriage!
Mary Ann loved her family; always putting her family first. She cherished her many dear friends. Mary Ann is survived by her three devoted children: daughter, Carol Austin; son, William (Marcie) Appelt; daughter, Diane (Greg) Mullinary. Grandchildren – Brian Calhoun; Johnny (Emily) Austin; Meghan (Sam) Curtis; Danica (Jake) Wilson; Alex (Ariel) Appelt; and David Knotts. Great-grandchildren, Luke and Riley Austin; Evie, Lily, Woodrow, and Violet Curtis; River and Grayson Appelt; and Gracie Calhoun.
Preceding Mary Ann in death was her dear husband (who sadly left us 5 months ago); her parents, and her loving brother, David Montgomery. Mary Ann is survived by brother-in-law, Ed (Judy) Appelt; sister-in-law, Marianne (Joe) Cibulas; sister-in-law, Arlene Appelt; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She is also survived by a wonderful niece, Patricia Montgomery.
Mary Ann was taken from us too soon; her spirit will live on in the memories we cherish and the love she shared with others. The only comfort is knowing she is now reunited with the love of her life.
Visitation for Mary Ann Appelt will be from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 on Thursday at Devlin Funeral Home, 806 Perry Highway, North Hills. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Regina Coeli Parish, Assumption Church (Bellevue) on Friday at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery.
Carol, Billy, & Diane,
So sorry to hear of the sudden passing of your beloved mother. She will always be remembered as a kind hearted woman. Through the years our families enjoyed many picnics at North Park and at your home and at our home. Your mother was always easy to talk with and fun-loving. One of my earliest picnic memories was watching her enjoy her children as she lay on a hammock with you in your backyard. You were looking at the sky with her and sharing the many things you saw forming in the clouds. I’m sure that’s only one of many simple pleasure, day to day memories that she gave you.
May God‘s grace and peace be poured out on each of you. —Becky
All of my love and sympathy to you Diane and all of your family. Sorry I could not be there in person but you have our prayers.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Danica and her family for the loss of her beautiful grandma.
Diane And family
We cant express enough how sorry we are to hear of the loss of Mrs. Appelt. We know that she was loved by all of her family. What a sad day and a sad time for you all, especially after just losing Mr. Appelt. You are all in our prayers.
Carol, my heart breaks for your loss. Your mom was indeed very special lady. She was always so kind to me and always welcomed me into your home. At some point along the way, she became Mom Appelt to me. Through high school on college and beyond, she was always ready with a kind and encouraging word. She will be greatly missed. I’m so sorry for your loss.
. Love always,
Joni.
Dear Carol and Family,
