Marlene Black

April 27, 2024 - May 05, 2012

Marlene Kay (Buterbaugh) Black, 64, of Marshall Township, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012, at her home in the comfort of her family. She was born Jan. 7, 1948, in Indiana, the daughter of the late E.E. and June (Burns) Buterbaugh. She is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Carl Black. She was the devoted mother of Amy, Scott and Jennifer Black, of Pittsburgh, North Hills. She is also survived by her four siblings, James (Nancy), of Atlanta, Ga., William (Ruth Anne), of Vienna, Va., Joann (Buterbaugh) Ketterer (Kenneth), of Newville, and Kenneth (Patricia), of Great Falls, Va. Marlene taught first grade in the Marion Center School District before turning her undivided attention to raising her family. She raised and nurtured her three children with utmost pride and steadfast love. Marlene’s greatest pleasures came in the presence of her family, friends and three granddogs. She was also especially fond of her abundant house plants, outdoor flowers and landscaping. She adored and thrived at working in God’s soil which is no surprise to all who knew and attest to her nurturing and kind spirit. May her compassionate heart be carried out in her children’s existence and her memory cherished for all eternity. Family will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME on Rochester Road, Cranberry Township. The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The burial will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society.
