Marie I. Weidner (Scherer)
Marie I. “Aunt Marie” Weidner, of Ross, formerly of the North Side, passed peacefully on March 27, 2026, at Concordia of Cranberry. Born the sixth of seven children, of the late William B. “Heavy” Scherer and Marie (Gormley) Scherer, who resided on Solar Street in Pittsburgh’s North Side. She was the wife of the late Joseph N. Weidner, and stepmother to Joseph (Diane), James (Annie), and the late Susan (Ted) Zobb and Robert (Stephanie) Weidner. She is survived by her sister-in-law Pat Scherer and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Francell “Sal” (Jack) Seaman, Dolores “Dee” (Ed) Zelik, Evabell (Milt) Colbert, William “Rip” (June) Scherer, Robert “Bones” (Peggy) Scherer, and Richard “Dick” Scherer. The daughter of a city councilman, Marie spent her entire career also working for the city of Pittsburgh, first for the Department of Forestry and then for the National Aviary, where she spent the majority of her career. From a young age it was impressed upon Marie to watch her older brother’s sporting events. She took that responsibility seriously and built it into a lasting love of sports and tailgates that she carried with her throughout her life, showing up at her families and friends sporting events well into her 90s, while also participating in her own favorite sprorts of skiing and tennis when she was younger. She enjoyed music, picnics, and parties, and anywhere folks were gathered where her husband Joe could play his accordion and it could turn into a “happening.” The only thing she loved more than sports and music and fun was her family and her faith. Marie was a devout Catholic and prayed the rosary everyday. Marie’s family would like to thank Good Samaritan and especially Concordia of Cranberry’s wonderful staff and nurses for their kindness, support, and dedication in her final days.
Friends will be received on Monday from 2-8PM at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, Inc. 806 Perry Hwy., Pgh, PA 15229. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday 10AM in St. Teresa of Avila Church (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish), 800 Avila Ct., Pgh, PA 15237. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Western PA Chapter of Huntington’s Disease Society of America
P.O. Box 1196, Coraopolis, PA 15108.

I remember Marie and her smile so well. My dad Ray was her cousin. I’m sad to see another one of his generation pass. May she rest in peace with him and all the others.
