Marie Louise “Mitzi” Schroeder, 89, of Ross, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024.
Born April 30, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Mitzi was the daughter of Joseph “Bill” Ryan and Alma Ryan.
Mitzi graduated from Perry High School in 1953 and soon after began a job with Bell Telephone.
In 1954, Mitzi married Henry Sobek, with whom she had five children. After Henry died
unexpectedly in 1969, Mitzi raised her children as a single mother and worked in retail to
support them.
In 1979, Mitzi married John Schroeder, with whom she enjoyed dancing, playing cards and
many trips to Florida.
Everywhere she went, Mitzi had a smile and a story for everyone, and she made friends easily,
even in her final months. She was always a fashionable dresser who was particularly fond of
lime green. She enjoyed painting, tennis, shopping, taking walks, reading Danielle Steel novels,
savoring a hot cup of tea with graham crackers, and spending time with her many cherished
friends and her large and loving family.
Mitzi was preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, her sister Helen Alessio, her
stepdaughter Sandi Hockenberry and her grandson Michael Concannon.
She is survived by her five children, Jeff (Mimi) Sobek of Pittsburgh, Darlene Sobek of Castle
Shannon, Kim (Travis) Holt of Greenville, Tenn., Kathy (Ed) Sandsmark of Jeannette and April
(Keith) McCann of Economy; also by her stepchildren John “Jack” (Mary Jane) Schroeder of
Shalimar, Fla., and Mark (Lisa) Schroeder of Ambridge; by her sisters Judy Ryan of Pittsburgh
and Betty Woods of Pittsburgh; and by numerous adoring grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
nieces, nephews and friends.
Per Mitzi’s wishes, service and interment are private. Arrangements by Devlin Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank the staff from Commonwealth Hospice and Sunrise Senior Living
for their care, kindness and dedication during Mitzi’s last days.
Sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family
Deepest sympathy to the entire family. Until we meet in paradise, God Bless her and keep her safe. Amen 🙏😇
