Marie Murrin
October 06, 2024 - September 11, 2013
Marie Murrin, known as Dee to all of us who loved her, went to join her husband of 59 years on the morning of September 11, surrounded by her family.
She was born in New York City on November 10, 1929. Her parents were Kathleen Monaghan and Joseph Coyne, both natives of Ireland. She and Thomas J. Murrin married in 1951, and spent most of their life here in their beloved Pittsburgh. We eight children consider ourselves so very blessed to have had her as our mother. Our Mom loved life, and wished she could have stayed.
Wherever Mom went she put anyone and everyone at ease. She was a great listener, and one to offer wise words of experience. She was humble, honest, and caring, and people gravitated to her. Her sense of fairness and goodness always prevailed.
Mom wore black and gold all the seasons of the year. And some would say she was a semi-professional bingo player, and bird whisperer, as well. Mom could have joined Siskel & Ebert reviewing the movies of her day, and mastered the NY Times crossword puzzle on a regular basis. She was a welcoming hostess, and often led us all in song.
She was fundraiser Chairperson for the Mercy Hospital Neonatal Center, and over the years she and Dad generously supported numerous charities and groups. Along with Dad she was co-recipient of the Cor Unum Award exemplifying the Spiritan mission and goals of Duquesne University.
Above all, Mom loved us — we children and our families, and her sister Kathleen Hurley and her family. Nothing made her happier.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Murrin. She is survived by her 8 children, 12 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren: Kathleen Baldinger; Jeanne Wilkinson (Jack); Mary Murrin Lampl, with Thomas, Paul, and Liam Lampl; Cecilia Minnock (Patrick) with Colleen Chulis (Matthew) and Luke and Adelle Chulis, Carolyn Minnock, Patrick Minnock (Meghan); Theresa Murrin with Ian Murrin; Heidi Murrin (Jeff Miller); Thomas Murrin (Karen) with Aidan Murrin, and Claire Murrin Hudac (Mark) with Madilyn Dee Cieszynski, Catherine Cieszynski, Sean and Darrah Hudac.
We would especially like to thank all of Mom’s caregivers for their compassionate care.

Claire, Ceil & the rest of the family, you have my deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother. I met her a few times and she was a wonderful gracious lady. The world is better for her having been in it.
