Maria (Sosnowski) Burns, 88, of Greensburg, formerly of Ross Township, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospice House. Maria was born July 4, 1922, in Pittsburgh. She is predeceased by her parents, Dr. John Sosnowski and Marie Posluszny Sosnowski; and her husband, Donald John Burns. Maria is survived by her children, Donald John (Sandra) Burns, of McCandless Township, Deborah Calisti, of Louisville, Ky., John Joseph (Nancy) Burns, of Dublin, Ohio, James Paul (Debbie) Burns, of Plum, and Michael Thomas Burns, of Greensburg. Maria is survived by 10 grandchildren, Robert Burns, Robin Sacco, Kerry Duffy Gizzi, Amy Calisti, Ryan Burns, Mindy Calisti, Jennifer Burns Page, Kathleen Burns Cataldi, Jessica Burns and Randall Burns; and eight great-grandchildren, Robert, Ronald, Rebecca, Rodney and Ross Burns, Lucy Sacco, Anthony Gizzi and Rylan Burns. Maria was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a great friend to all who knew her. She will be remembered as a giving, compassionate and sentimental woman with a quick wit and sharp sense of humor. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and reminiscing with family and friends and could often be found enjoying the view from the large bay window in her kitchen with a cup of coffee or a glass of sherry. She will be fondly remembered as the gracious orchestrator of the large family gatherings at Thanksgiving an Christmas. Maria had a profound capacity to connect with others and consequently touched many lives. She will be greatly missed. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the T.B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, North Hills. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Sebastian Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Sebastian Church or Good Samaritan Hospice.
