Lucia Soondong (Lee) Chun

March 20, 2017

Age 90, of Franklin Park, on Monday, March 20, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Thomas H. Chun, M.D.; survived by her sister, Helen (Andrew) Jong of South Korea. A resilient survivor of the Korean War, she immigrated to the U.S. in 1953 and completed her medical training in Hoboken, NJ where she met her husband. Together they raised their five children in Richmond, VA where she maintained a busy and active anesthesiology practice at St. Mary’s Hospital until her retirement. Lucia and her husband were instrumental in the founding of the first Korean Catholic Community in Richmond, VA. We remember her as a remarkable woman, devoted wife, and encouraging her children’s every possible success, sustaining them with an abiding, vigilant love. She was a loving and devoted mother to Helen (Dave) O’Hallaron M.D., Joseph (Maureen) Chun M.D., Grace (Joe) Watson, Juliana Chun, and Daniel (Janet) Chun; proud grandmother to 12; cherished great-grandmother to one, favorite auntie to many nieces and nephews, and dear friend of Fr. Jacques Seong. Her final days were blessed by her loving caregivers, Rita Bisbal, Erma Zinsser, Betty Scott, AHN Hospice Care and countless very generous and kind people who cared for her through her struggles with Parkinson’s Disease. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Association. There will be no visitation. Friends will be received Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 10:15 a.m. in St. John Neumann Church, 2230 Rochester Rd., Pgh., PA 15237, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Arrangements by DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., (412) 364-0510.
