Lifang Shao

Lifang Shao, age 46, of Franklin Park, died on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. She was born on December 9, 1965, in Jinan, Shandong Province, China, to Yongchu Shao, father, and Yuanhe Zhou, mother. She graduated from Shandong University and received two Master’s Degrees, the first from Long Island University and the second from the University of Pittsburgh. Lifang worked as a biomedical researcher for the University of Pittsburgh as lab manager for Dr. David Geller’s lab in the Department of Surgery. She has published at least 21 papers, two as first author papers and four as PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America) papers. She is the mother of three children: Annie and Bonnie Yan, twins, age 19, and Connie Yan, age 6. She dedicated her life to raising her children with love and warmth. She was married to Hong Qu Yan, her beloved husband, for 23 years, exactly half of her lifespan. After the service, she will be cremated, brought back to China, and laid to rest beside her mother-in-law. She was always laughing and singing, and we hope that she’ll continue to be happy and content in Heaven. Although her life was short, it was meaningful and rewarding; she made significant contributions in the scientific community. Lifang will always be remembered and never forgotten. She is survived by her parents, her sister Lihua Shao, her husband, her children as well as many friends and other relatives. Friends will be received on Monday, 5/28/2012 (Memorial Day) from 10am until time of service at 11:30am at Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry, 2678 Rochester Rd. (724-772-8800).
