Kathleen McBride Schartner went to be with the Lord on July 31st, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert L Schartner and was born August 2nd 1932, in Avalon Pa. the child of John and Annie McBride. She graduated from Avalon High School, Westminster College and later received a master’s in education from Shippensburg University. She also earned the designation of Certified Financial Planner. After her marriage in 1954 she lived in North Huntington, PA and then in Dillsburg, PA where Kathleen & Al raised their family. Kathleen worked as a Guidance Counselor in the Northern York School District for 17 years. Kathleen was an active member of the Monaghan Presbyterian Church in Carroll Township, York County and served as an Elder and as a commissioner to the denomination’s General Assembly.
After retirement in 1997, Al and Kathleen moved to Diamond Run Golf Course community in Sewickley, PA whereshe enjoyed active membership in the local chapter of P.E.O., the Sewickley Presbyterian Church, book clubs and a golf league. Moving to the Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community with Al in 2005, she served as editor of the community newspaper for 7 years and participated in many other activities.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Schartner, and their first child, Amy Louise in 1958, and by three sisters Margaret Nicolls, Sally Fahringer, and Anna May Eckstein. She is survived by three children, Dale (Martha Steele) of Beaver, PA, Carl (Cynthia Bean) of Highland Park, PA, and Beth Lawson (H. Jeffrey) of Sarasota, FL, and by sister Dorothy Patz and her husband Louis. She was the proud grandmother of sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at Sherwood Oaks on August 9, 2025, at 1:30pm. The interment of Kathleen will be in the Pleasant Street Cemetery in South Berlin, MA alongside husband Albert and their first child, Amy Louise. Memorial gifts may be given to the Sherwood Oaks Scholarship Fund for student employees.
