Colbert
Joy H. (Katilius)

Age 73, of Swissvale, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. The sweetest human Earth has known — to know Joy was to love Joy. When Alzheimer’s stole many of her dearest memories, she always remembered her beloved husband of 48 years, John. Joy is remembered for her unconditional love by her children, Amy (Aaron) Rinsema, J (Jen) Colbert, Annie (Alan) Colbert. Her smushy hugs and contagious giggles will be missed dearly by her grandchildren, Noah, Evabelle, Jack, Edith Joy.

Joy was born in Pittsburgh to Twila and Joe Katilius. She was the third of 11 children (Christine, Denise, Gay, Gerry, Maria, Therese, Anthony, Melanie, John, Richard). Joy always had a book in hand and her love of reading guided her career as a gifted writer, editor, and librarian. At age 40, Joy returned to school and earned a bachelor’s degree from National Louis University, an accomplishment she was rightfully extremely proud of.

Joy’s warm embraces, gentle smile, and unwavering kindness impacted the lives of everyone she encountered. Her love will live on in all of us.

Friends will be received on Friday from 6-8PM at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, INC. 806 Perry Hwy., Ross Twp. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Teresa of Avila Church, 800 Avila Ct., Pgh, PA 15237 (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish) on Saturday at 9:30AM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joy’s name can be made to the Swissvale Library or Greater Pittsburgh Alzheimer’s Association.
