John F. “Chiefy” Vavro, 71, of Ross Township, formerly of Lyndora, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010. Beloved husband of Patricia (Stephens) Vavro; loving father of Randy (Lori) Vavro and Kelly (Mike) Hasychak; four stepchildren, Paul, Tony, Mike and Jim Coco; grandfather of Matt Vavro, Kristina, Nick, Petey, Emma, Michael and Liliana; a beloved niece, Mary Beth Petrasek; preceded in death by his sister, Genevieve Cekoski. John was a former Golden Gloves boxer, enjoyed spending time with family and friends and a true Pittsburgh Steeler fan. Visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the T.B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, North Hills. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Sebastian Church. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Butler. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Light of Life Mission.

    My deepest sympathy to Chiefy JR’s family. Jr & I shared many Friday nights watching Friday night fights & drinking Iron City beer. We were together and saw Maz’s 1960 homer.We played midget league football & pony league baseball together. He was my good paal & I will always have a place for “Chiefy” in my prayers.
