Age 90 of McCandless Twp. on Wednesday Feb. 9, 2011. Beloved husband of Marjorie (Clark) Hammer for 61 years. Loving Father of Nancy Babicka (Rich) and Susan Louis (Mark). Dear Grandfather of Jason, Laura and Tracy Babicka, and Christine and Kimberly Louis. Brother of the late Andrew Hammer, Grace Wintermantel, Rosella Hessong, Catherine Henderson, and Rita Klicker. Brother in Law of the late Judy and Jack Clark. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
John was a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign receiving two Bronze Stars, member and past commander and chaplain of American Legion Post 161 Wexford, member of West Vew VFW Post 2754 and an active volunteer at Passavant Hospital, Verland Foundation,Vincentian Home, and the VA Hospital. He was also a volunteer Santa Claus to many organizations throughout the North Hills. He was a member and usher at St. John Neumann Church, Franklin Park, since it was established in 1979.
Visitation Sunday 6-8 PM and Monday 2-4, 6-8 PM at T.B. Devlin Funeral Home, 806 Perry Hwy. North Hills, Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Neumann Church, Tuesday at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Sewickley. Contributions may be made to the St. John Neumann Church Building Fund.
