John McCarthy, Sr.

John E. McCarthy Sr., in his 90th year, of Cranberry, formerly of the North Side, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007. He was born Aug. 19, 1917, to Anna Stein and John J. McCarthy. Beloved husband and longtime love of Loretta P. (Doll) McCarthy; also survived and cherished by children, John Jr. (Claudette), Dennis (Royann), Kevin (Lynn), Richard (Ethel), Elizabeth Gordon (Dave) and Glenn (Gina); also sadly missed by grandchildren who adored his gentle and patient ways, Scott, Matthew, Megan, Kevin, Kim and Stephen; and Weiss children, Kelly, Dan, Jeff, Gina, Dave, Keenan and Cameron; and great-grandchildren, Julia, Aidan, Kara and Angelina; brother of James McCarthy, of Bellevue. Preceded in death by siblings, William, Henrietta, Marie, Rita, Thomas and Robert. John proudly served in the Army Air Forces stationed in England, Belgium and France during World War II. He was employed his entire career by Giant Eagle Markets and even earlier as a child, when it was known as OK Grocery. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME OF CRANBERRY, 2678 Rochester Road, 724-772-8800. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Ferdinand Church. Private burial service to follow at St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Passavant Retirement Community for the Lutheran Senior Life Foundation Benevolent Care Fund, 401 S. Main St., Zelienople, PA 16063.
