John David Notsch

John David Notsch, age 66, passed away at his home in North Hills, PA on March 3, 2023, after a recent illness. He was the beloved son of John Notsch and Beatrice Martin Notsch Consolo, stepson of Joseph Consolo, grandson of David Martin, big brother to Mary Notsch, Joseph Notsch and Ann Martin, half-brother to Patti Burris and stepbrother to Laraine Burda, Joe Consolo and Angie Consolo-Bonifati. He will also be remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

Known as David to his family, he attended St. Athanasius Elementary School in West View, North Hills High School,and was a proud graduate of Michigan State University. He enlisted in the Army and was assigned to Walter Reed Hospital in Silver Springs MD where he conducted research on the prevention of malaria. After his active-duty time, David transitioned to a civilian position at the hospital and continued his work for another twenty-five years until his retirement from government service.

David was a great lover of the outdoors and spent his vacation time volunteering on trail restoration projects in national parks across the country. He was also an avid biker who enjoyed long rides, often 100 miles or more. David was a self-taught and skilled craftsman, known for his extensive woodworking projects and stained-glass creations. After his retirement, he returned to Pittsburgh and spent his time beautifying his home with handmade cabinetry, hand-built furniture, stained glass windows and lamps plus the multitude of other items he produced in his professional level workshop.
