John C. Gongas Jr., age 72, of Cranberry Twp., passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2017. Beloved husband of 48 years to Christine Gongas; loving father of John (Gail) and Jeff (Tracy) Gongas; proud grandfather of Alexandra, Gage, Anna, and Skye; dear brother of Cleton (Mary) Gongas and the late Linda Waugaman.
Family and friends will be received Sunday from 2-4, 6-8 pm at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME OF CRANBERRY. A Blessing Service will take place Monday at 11:30 am at the funeral home, officiated by Fr. Charles Bober.

John was my guitar teacher (and mentor) in the late 1960s, and his positive attitude and teachings were a blessing when I joined the USAF in 1970, later becoming a jazz guitarist with the USAF Band in Europe. I’m now living in Virginia, but if any of John’s family or former students want to contact me, please do. May God bless John and the impact he had on so many!

I graduated with Cleton in 1971 from W. Mifflin S. High. John was my guitar instructor at the “Melody Shop” in W. Mifflin for many years. It was the mid-sixty’s and so much fun was to be had by knowing a “few” chords on an electric guitar and John made it even more so ! He was a great guy to have along during our studio’s annual “Seven Springs Guitar Festival”. Even though it’s been at least 50+ years since I’ve seen him I can still remember his dedicated musical teachings and remember his voice. R. I. P. friend .
