Jay Rhue of Osprey Point, Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully, September 07, 2023.

He was the son of John Emmett & Kathleen Laughinghouse Rhue of Vanceboro, North Carolina.

He entered the US Navy at age 17 and served proudly for 22 years.

He was an E8 Senior Chief. He served in Vietnam 1965 to 1966 on USS Annapolis AGMR1.

He also served on the USS Opportune ARS41 Diving Ship that picked up astronauts from the ocean after their space mission.

He served with Karl Brasher the diver from the Men of Honor fame.

He served our Nation’s shipyards in Norfolk, Virginia and Mayport, Florida.

He was a volunteer Bingo worker at St. Pius X Catholic Church Norfolk, VA many years.

He was an usher at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

He delivered food to the homeless Shelter Jax Beach many years.

Mr. Rhue is survived by wife Rita and four sons: Jeffrey, his wife Leslie, of Va. Beach, VA. Patrick, Bart, and Kevin. Also, four grandchildren, Elizabeth Merce, (Scott), Ashley, Holly and grandson Jake and great granddaughter Abi Merce.

Interment service will be held at Christ Our Redeemer Chapel on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 12 PM (noon), with full Military Honors.
