Janice C. McSorley, of North Hills, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Janice was born on November 2, 1936, the daughter of the late Frank and Evelyn Sommer.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her son, Kevin; and her great-grandson, Charlie.

Janice is survived by her sons Martin (Joy), Frank (Tricia), Timothy (Linda), and Daniel (Michele); her daughter, Kimberly (Brian); her sister, Carol Christy (Gary); her grandchildren Janice, Ashley, Timothy Jr., Brittany, Bryan, Aaron, Matthew, Sean, Brian Jr., Trevor, Quinn, Andrew, and Hannah; and her great-grandchildren Jamir, Guy, Roman, Tory, McKenzie, Brandon, Ty, Rylan, Nickolas, Theodore, and the late Charlie.

Janice dedicated her life to her family, her faith, and serving her community. She was the heart of her family, loving and caring, always putting others before herself. Her greatest joy was her children, whom she loved unconditionally and supported in every way possible. Her love only multiplied with her 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and happiness.

While raising her family, she generously gave her time as a Girl Scout District Chairman, guiding and mentoring young girls with patience, encouragement, and a steady example of kindness and responsibility.

For more than 50 years, Janice faithfully volunteered at St. Teresa’s Parish, generously giving her time and energy to countless fundraisers. While she supported many parish events, her heart truly belonged to the Annual Lenten Fish Fry. She poured herself into it each year, not just as a volunteer, but as someone who cherished the fellowship, laughter, and sense of community. To her, it was never just about serving food; it was serving God and his people.

She cared deeply about others and always wanted the very best for everyone. Her kindness, wisdom, and steady presence were gifts to all who knew her. She loved playing cards with friends, cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, dining at her favorite restaurants, and entertaining family and friends at home. Wherever she was, there was warmth, laughter, and love.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing that her legacy of faith, generosity, and unconditional love will live on in the lives she touched. She taught us by example how to serve God, how to love, and how to put family first.

She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

I will always remember Mrs McSorley as a friendly and smiling personality in our neighborhood and the circles our families ran. Always pleasant despite the stress and strain of life. Mrs McSorley is a great friend to many and will be missed.

Jan was one of the nicest ladies I’ve ever met! Always a smile and a kind word! We need more Jan’s in our world! What a great example for all. Deepest sympathies to the family.

My sincere condolences to the McSorley family.

God must be with me tonight as remembrances of my childhood friend Marty suddenly came to mind. I searched for Marty and came across this sad news.

I remember Mrs. McSorley as the kind and generous neighborhood mom who took all of us under her wing. And she never got angry when we boys would play football in her front yard and more than occasionally toppling her Christmas nativity decorations.

Mrs. McSorley was always a second Mom to me. She was always kind and was an inspiration to me as I grew up. I haven’t seen her for years (we moved to Ohio and then South Carolina) but she would appear in my thoughts a couple of times a year. God Bless you and may God hold you in his loving hands and reunite her with Ed. I think I can see her smiling from here.
