Jan A. Double
Age 74, of McCandless Twp., passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022. Born January 18, 1947, son of the late David and Mary (Neglio) Double. Beloved husband of Patricia (Kane) Double, whom he married on November 13, 1971; loving father of Philip (Destin), Todd (Valarie), and Peter (Nicole) Double; Grampy of Isabella, Hudson, Lyn, and Ryan; brother of Pat (Darla) Double, and Joyce (Paul) Wickles.
Jan Double was born practically perfect in every way on January 18, 1947 to Mary (Neglio) and David Double. He had an older brother, Pat, and a younger sister, Joyce. He graduated from Perry High School in 1964. Shortly thereafter he was drafted and served in the Vietnam War. On June 19, 1967 his squad came under heavy ambush. In the ensuing action he helped evacuate a downed helicopter of wounded soldiers while under heavy fire saving several lives. For these actions he was decorated with a Bronze Star with Valor.
Returning home he began a 42 year long career in data processing and Telecommunications at Mellon Bank, starting in the print pool and ending his career as assistant vice-president. He also met his wife, Patricia, and started a family. They had three boys (Philip, Todd, Peter). He would go on to coach all of them in soccer. He loved all of the Pittsburgh sports teams (even the Pirates), and the soccer team Manchester United.
He was adored by all four of his grandchildren (Isabella, Hudson, Lyn, Ryan). Known for his quick wit and dad jokes, it was not uncommon to hear laughter surrounding him. He was virtually unbeatable in trivial pursuit and prideful over his mastery of useless knowledge. He will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are welcome on Thursday from 2-4, 6-8 pm at Devlin Funeral Home, 806 Perry Hwy, North Hills. A Blessing Service will be held Friday at the funeral home at 11 am.
In lieu if flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Jan’s name to Hilman Cancer Center.

Jan & I graduated from high school together. He was a sweet, kind & gentle person. In this beautifully written notice, I learned that Jan & I worked at Mellon Bank at the same time. I was there from 1974 to 1982 but he would not have recognized my name. I am happy that he lived a such rich and full life with a wonderful family. I know your lives are filled with many happy memories.
I am saddened to hear of Jans passing. He was a mentor to me and gave me few kicks in the butt when I needed it. We were competitive with each other and he taught me to stand my ground when I knew I was right. He shaped who I am today. My condolences to the family. Blaine Kriebel
Andi and I were deeply saddened to learn of Jan’s passing. Please accept our deepest sympathies. Jan hired me into my first job when I was just weeks out of the military. I will never forget that he took a chance on a green, young veteran with no practical experience at all. For that act of kindness and many more, I will always be grateful and indebted to Jan.
To all of the Double family, I had the honor of knowing Jan if for a brief time at Mellon. I knew he was decorated veteran and he was always great to work with. My condolences on your loss.
So very sad to hear about Jan, our former neighbor and friend.
Deepest sympathy to Patty, Phillip, Todd and Peter.

Patty and family,
Hoping that you’re comforted by fond memories, the caring thoughts of others, and the healing power of time. So very sorry for your loss.
He might’ve ‘barked’ at times at work, but he knew his stuff and was a softy on the inside.
Wishing you peace to bring comfort and the courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts. Please accept our condolences.

Jan and I worked in the same group back in my Mellon days along with John Joyce, Gene Brown, Dick Swadley and so many other great guys. Jan was terrific not only at his job but in keeping people calm in a crisis.
My condolences along with all those of the people he worked with back in the day. Life’s events have us move on to other cities and adventures but we always remember the special people. He will be remembered.
