May 07, 1928 - March 08, 2019

Service: Friday, March 29, 2019, 10:30 am; The National Cemetery of The Alleghenies.

James Howard Rush, 90, originally from Massillon, Ohio, passed away Friday, March 8, 2019. Jim, as he was known to his family and friends, was preceded in death by his father, Howard Rush; mother, Mabel Rush; brother, Tom Rush; sister, Eleanora Wenger; beloved wife, Betty Constance Rush; and daughter, Cynthia Lou Rush.

Jim is survived by his son Doug and daughter-in-law Joan and grandsons Griffin and Ian of Libertyville, IL, as well as his son Steve and daughter-in-law Diana and grandchildren Paul, Anne, Rachel, and Luke of Sewickley, PA. Paul is married to Cassie and together they have three children: Hayden, Naomi, and Eli.

Jim enlisted in the Navy on May 14, 1946 and served until March 1, 1948. He was a Navy Seaman 1st Class and received a commendation of “excellent to outstanding” work while serving in the Atlantic Fleet, Utility Transport Squadron Two. He graduated from Wittenberg University in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After graduation, Jim worked as a salesman in a variety of fields and regularly volunteered at his local church doing anything and everything that was needed. In 1988 Jim moved to Stuart, FL and lived there until he had a stroke in 2011 at which time he relocated to Pennsylvania to recuperate and continue therapy.

Jim loved the outdoors and as a youth he loved to hunt, fish, and catch turtles with his father. Once he had a family of his own, Jim took them on numerous camping trips to Wisconsin, South Dakota, and Colorado. When he moved to Florida, Jim bought a boat and spent many happy days out on the intercoastal waterways dreaming of calm seas and big fish — mostly, though, he just came home with big fish stories.

Services will be held Friday, March 29, 2019 at 10:30 am at The National Cemetery of The Alleghenies with full Military Honors.
