James D. Murphy, Jr, age 76, passed away suddenly on Thursday December 29th, 2022. He leaves his loving wife, Elizabeth (Gardy) Murphy of 53 years, several cousins,  many friends and colleagues and his greyhound, Holly, to remember and miss him. He was preceded in death by his beloved son,  James D. Murphy III who passed away on Monday December 26th 2022, his parents, Julia and Jim Murphy and his sister, Laverne Evans. Jim was a 1964 graduate of North Catholic High School and graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1968. He served honorably in the United States Army and following his return from a tour of duty in Vietnam he attended Duquesne School of Law.  Jim served as Public Defender for Greene County before joining  J.J. Gumberg where he was Executive Vice President, General Council and Corporate Secretary before retiring in 2018. He worked on numerous development projects most notably Water Works Mall. Jim was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed cheering for the Fighting Irish and attending Pittsburgh Penguin games with his beloved son, James.

Family and friends are welcome on Monday from 2-4, 6-8 pm at Devlin Funeral Home, 806 Perry Hwy., North Hills, 15229. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10 am at Christ Our Savior Parish, St. Cyril Church, with Rev. Nick Vaskov officiating. Interment will follow at Uniondale Cemetery.
