Irene Pickens

Irene “Reenie” Carte Pickens, 83, of Sewickley, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, surrounded by her family. Irene is survived by her children, James Michael Pickens, Susan (Daniel) Cardone, and Patricia (Mark) Sidman; her grandchildren, Elsa Marie Pickens, James Henry Pickens, Christopher Pickens, Janet Pickens, Margot Sidman, Maria Cardone, Alexander Sidman, and Christa (Dan Tallarico) Cardone; and her siblings, Dr. Estol Carte, Marie (Paul) Hopper, and Elizabeth Keene. She is predeceased by her husband, Billy Pickens. Irene was born July 11, 1933, in St. Albans, W.V. She is an alumna of Saint Albans High School and West Virginia University. Irene was a lifelong learner, encouraging and supporting the education of others, especially her grandchildren. She donated her time to community organizations, including Meals on Wheels, and teaching English as a second language.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 405 B St., St. Albans, WV 25177.
