Howard R. 

Age 89, of Franklin Park,formerly of Ross Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband for 61 years of Carol(Kennedy) VonSchaven. Howard was a loving father to Jennifer McCurry (John) and Jim (Liberty) and proud grandfather of David McCurry. He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Catherine VonSchaven and sister Marlene Duffy.  He is survived by his sister MaryKay Amidon. Howard is also survived by loving relatives, friends and former colleagues.  

Howard graduated from Duquesne University in 1961 with a degree in accounting. He began his professional career with Carbis-Walker and Associates. In 1965 Howard joined Lybrand, Ross Bros. & Montgomery in the Pittsburgh office, which, through mergers became Coopers & Lybrand (C&L) then finally PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC). He was admitted to the partnership in 1979. At C&L, Howard was the leader of the Health Care practice, where he became known by many as Mr. HealthCare of Western Pa. After 31 years, he retired in 1996.  Howard loved playing golf, enjoying the company of others, spending his winters in Florida and watching his grandson David play baseball.  

Friends will be received on Sunday June 22nd 2-5PM at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Hwy., Pgh, PA 15229. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Saints Johnand Paul Church, 2586 Wexford Bayne Rd., Sewickley, PA 15143 on Monday 10:30AM. Everyone please meet at church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Howard’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or a charity of your choice.

    Sincerest condolences to the entire VonSchaven family. I worked for Howard for 10 years in PwC’s (then Coppers & Lybrand) healthcare practice. Howard was the best. While I haven’t lived in the area for nearly 40 years, I still think of him (and Carol) often and fondly. Rest in peace my friend.
