George Nairn III

November 11, 1936 - June 30, 2011


George Nairn III, 74, of Coal Center, formerly of North Hills, Pittsburgh, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011. Mr. Nairn was born Nov. 11, 1936, in Pittsburgh, and was a retired police officer of Ross Township Police. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Vada Nairn; and a stepson, Donald L. Roberts. Survivors include his wife, Loretta (Roberts) Nairn; children, Barbara McKinnon and husband, Allan, of Mojave, Calif., George H. Nairn, of Richmond, Va., Heather Penn and husband, Michael, of Shreveport, La., and Christopher Nairn, of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Rachel McKinnon Jager and husband, Mark, and Holly Penn Elliott and husband, Jason; brother, Russell L. Nairn and wife, Linda; niece, Tiffany Vada Nairn; and nephews, Blake Russell Nairn. Mr. Nairn was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Pittsburgh, FOP No. 91, American Legion Post No. 0945, and was a founding member of Pittsburgh Syria Motor Corps. Mr. Nairn also served in the Navy aboard the USS Boxer during the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Special thanks to the staff of Amedisys Hospice (formerly Albert Gallatin) and especially Barb Hager, George’s nurse, and Adelia the bath aide for all their support, kindness and compassion during these very dark days. You made the days so much brighter. Also a very special thanks to John Robinson, Unity, A Journey of Hope, who made George’s last wish come true. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Wednesday until time of service at 8 p.m. at T.B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, North Hills.
