George Cross
March 9, 1930 – December 6, 2025
George Cross, a one-of-a-kind, gentle, and brilliant soul, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on March 9, 1930, George lived a long and meaningful life filled with curiosity, warmth, and quiet wisdom. His presence brought comfort, steadiness, and joy to all who knew him.
George was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Carolyn Cross. George met Carolyn while working at the Pennsylvania Railroad, and from that moment, a lifelong partnership blossomed. Their shared love, laughter, and companionship shaped the foundation of George’s life, and Carolyn remained his constant confidante and joy until her passing. He was also predeceased by his dear friend of ten years, Joan Boyd, whom he had reconnected with in later years. Both held special places in his heart.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Lynn Appman (Bill) and Kathy Holland (Gene Page). He is also remembered with fondness by his former son-in-law, Jim Holland (Mike Aiello), who remained a cherished member of the family.
George leaves behind three treasured grandchildren who adored him deeply: Will Appman (Kendall), Tim Appman (Liz), and Kendall Holland. He was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Mabel (Tim and Liz), who brought immense joy to his life. His family circle also includes Gene’s sons, Garland (Marjorie) and Grant Page, whom George warmly welcomed into his heart and life.
His life was further enriched by the Boyd and Harmon families, whose companionship and kindness meant so much to him. He was loved more than words can express and will be missed beyond measure.
George was predeceased by his siblings Lou, Sophie, Tom, and Mike, and is survived by his brother Sam (Andrea), along with many nieces and nephews who will lovingly remember him.
Those who knew George will remember his kind heart, quiet brilliance, and gentle humor that could light up any room. He took pride in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a sound mind, and he shared his love of sports as a dedicated referee for high school basketball and football. In recognition of his contributions to athletics, he was inducted into the PIAA Hall of Fame, a distinction that reflected his lifelong commitment to fairness, sportsmanship, and community.
A Celebration of George’s life will be held on January 17, 2026, at 10:00 A.M., Kearns Spirituality Center 9000 Babcock Blvd. Allison Park, PA 15101.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital http://stjude.org or Tunnel to Towers Foundation http://www.t2t.org

We are so sorry to learn of George’s passing and send our sincere condolences to his many loved ones. He was indeed an outstanding teacher and upon his retirement became cherished member of the North Hills School District Retirees.
I met George at North hills high School where we both taught. George was a fantastic person and a great friend.
I had the pleasure of meeting George through his daughter, Lynn, who is a friend of mine. They would come to our gym together at times and he was an interesting guy to talk to y very knowledgeable about any topic. I Iused to like to talk to him on about his refereeing days.
Wonderful guy…was one of the first people I met when hired at North Hills. Always with a smile and professional in all he did.
When Carol and I moved to South Fayette, we met his brother, Tom.
God bless the Cross family at this time of celebrating a life well lived.
My family has known Mr Cross for many years. He’s the father of my best friend. He was a wonderful man who loved life and lived it to the fullest right up to his last day here on earth. I’m happy that he is at peace now looking down on us from heaven. We will miss him very much. With our love and sympathy.
