Eugene McShea

In the early morning of June 25, 2014, Gene passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer. He passed peacefully in the presence of his family at his home in Seven Fields, PA. Gene was 80 years old. Gene was born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 24, 1934. He was the fifth child of James F. and Mary E. McShea. He persevered through many personal and physical hardships in his life, including the sudden death of his father at the age of 48. From an early age, he worked to support and provide for his family. Gene lived in Pittsburgh his entire life and went on to graduate from Central Catholic High School in 1952 and Duquesne University in 1957. He led a distinguished career of service through 26 years of employment at the United Way of Allegheny County as the Director of Personnel and Business Services, and volunteering through his church after retirement. Up to his last days, Gene cherished his wife of 56 years, Phyllis (Prinzo) McShea. He will be remembered as a loving and doting husband, father, and grandfather, and a steady, reliable provider for his family. He was a giving and compassionate friend. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary; brothers, John and William; and sister, Mary Ellen. Gene is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sister, Patricia; brother, James; sons, Bernard and Gregory; and grandchildren, Miranda, Caroline, and Benjamin. Friends received Friday 2-8 p.m. at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME OF CRANBERRY, 2678 Rochester Rd., (724) 772-8800. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday 10 a.m. in St. Kilian Church, 205 Clark St., Mars, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the Catholic Hospice of Pittsburgh, 6200 Brooktree Road, Suite 220, Wexford, PA 15090.
