Eleanor Jane Gochis Heasley
Age 86, of New Sewickley Twp., passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2024 after a courageous battle with dementia. Born October 19, 1937, daughter of the late William and Agnes Gochis (Bonkowski).
Mother of Timothy (Corey) Heasley; Grandma of Victoria Lynne Ciorra (Alex), Colton, and Trenton; sister of late Theodore, William, Thomas, and Cynthia (Monticue). Eleanor graduated from Oliver High School (’55) with high honors before attending the University of Pittsburgh and earning a Bachelors’ degree in education. At Pitt, she was President of the Delta Zeta sorority, a legacy her granddaughter followed years later. She followed her passion for 47 years as a teacher with the Pittsburgh Public Schools, earning two masters degrees along the way. Her unique gift was recognizing children’s needs and ensuring they had whatever they needed to grow as humans. She loved all things dance and food related to the diverse cultures Pittsburgh offered. Our hopes are she is enjoying baklava and folk dancing in a better place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Reading Ready Pittsburgh NonProfit Organization.
Professional services are entrusted to Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry Township. A memorial and gathering of friends and family will be held February 24, 1-4 PM at Sunny Jim,s Tavern, Camp Horne Road.

I loved going to Greek Food Festivals with Eleanor and dancing with the Greeks.
Eleanor was a dear friend and mentor to me during our time at PPS. I learned so much from her. She will always hold a place in my heart. RIP, Elli. I tip my coffee cup to you! Cheers
