Eddie Serrano

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and patriot passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday, June 18, 2020 with loved ones at his side. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Andrelina, two sons, Eddie and Ron and daughter-in-law Peggy, daughter Janice and son-in-law Robbie; and five grandchildren: Ryan, Brandon, Andi, Dani, and Tori.
Born Edmundo Francisco Serrano on Sept. 12, 1927 in the Philippines to Alfonso and Dominga Serrano. He would officially change his name to Eddie when he became a U.S. citizen. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1946 and his naval career took him to San Diego, Hawaii, Japan, Norfolk, and the Philippines. In 1965, he was selected as Master Chief of the White Staff Mess which brought the Serrano family to Washington D.C. He retired from the Navy in 1971 and joined the White House Military Office as the Assistant Presidential Food Service Coordinator.
Eddie took great pride in his White House service. He supported all presidential events – big and small. Some of the memorable events included traveling with President Nixon to China and going to Key Biscayne and San Clemente with the first family for holidays and vacations. He often jogged with President Carter and was at Camp David with President Carter when the peace agreement was signed between Israel and Egypt. Eddie presented President Reagan with a cake on his 70th birthday and was called to the hospital when President Reagan was shot to support his recovery. After serving six Presidents, Eddie fully retired in 1993 giving him more time to pursue his favorite activities of fishing, crabbing, watching movies (mostly Westerns) and especially cooking. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family. He wanted to be at every family event – big and small. His cooking and storytelling made every gathering special.
Eddie brought joy to every life he touched and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends are welcome on Friday, June 26th to a viewing from 9 am until 11 am at Devlin Funeral Home, 806 Perry Hwy., North Hills. A Blessing Service will be held at 11 am at the funeral home, with Rev. Jim Torquato officiating. Eddie will be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.

Eddie & I served at the same time in the White House and at Camp David; he was a great man! I have many memories of his generosity and kindness to his fellow White House Comrades. Many of our holidays spent traveling away from home were brighter because of him and his excellent Staff. Peace be with you Eddie – no doubt serving our Lord in Heaven…

I was saddened after hearing that Uncle Eddie passed away. I still remember the warm welcome that he gave us when my family came to visit him back in 2016. My children – John and Joe who are so proud because, they had a grandpa who worked at the White House and served 3 US Presidents. Uncle Eddie always had a warm smile, good disposition, kind hearted, loving and a very inspirational person.
We will surely missed You, Uncle. My deepest Sympathy and Prayers to Auntie Andreling and Family.
