Dr. Judith E. Orie, MD, JD, of McCandless Township, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011. She was the beloved daughter of Dr. John R. Orie, MD, and the late Jean (Lally) Orie; loving sister of Jack Orie, Esq. (Christine), Janine Orie, Justice Joan Orie Melvin (Greg), James Orie, Esq. (Heidi), Dr. Joseph Orie (Kathy), Joy Orie, Senator Jane Orie and Jerome Orie, Esq. (Erin); and dear aunt of Jonathan, Esq., Meghan, Matthew, Casey, Tricia, Janine, John, Bridget, Danielle, James, Andrew, Stephanie, Jennifer, Gabrielle, Danielle, Patrick and Liam. She is also survived by many cousins and her cherished pets, Sophia and Bo. Dr. Orie was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (MD); Duquesne University School of Law (JD); specialties in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine; internship, residency and fellowship at Presbyterian University Hospital; Georgetown University (BS, first class of women to be admitted); assistant professor, medicine, Drexel University College of Medicine; established the Nuclear Cardiology Department at Allegheny General Hospital; established international presentation of paper on nuclear cardiology, Oslo, Norway; “Women’s Heart Day”; published in Duquesne Law Review “Economic Credentialing: Bottom-Line Medical Care”; and dame of Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Malta. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at T.B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, North Hills. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Alexis Church, Wexford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Alexis Church Building Fund.
