Dr. John J. Franko,of Ross Twp. On Thursday May 21,2020 . Born December 8, 1928, a native of Youngstown, Ohio; graduate of Case Western Reserve University, where he lettered in football; and of Marquette University Medical School. An Army veteran, he served during the Korean War at the Surgical Research Unit Burn Center at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He practiced medicine for more than 30 years in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Proceeding him in death were his beloved wife Billie Jo; infant daughter, Catherine; parents, John and Mary Franko; and a brother, Edward.

He is survived by sons John, Stephen and William; daughter, Melissa; and brother, Richard. Due to the coronavirus crisis, a private Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Teresa of Avila Roman Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Dr. John Franko to Duquesne Women’s Basketball (c/o The Duquesne Athletic Fund) or to the Lupus Research Alliance. A Mass in celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
