Donald L. Kersten, 70, of McCandless, died suddenly Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008. Beloved husband for 29 years of Katherine (Patterson) Kersten; loving father of Lisa Reinert (Chris), Lynn Kline (Bob), Brian, Dave Zamperini (Kathleen), and Mar-Jean Zamperini; proud grandfather of six grandsons; brother of Joyce Venatta (the late Richard) and Sandy Efremenko (the late Tony); also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Don was a Navy veteran, an avid sportsman, a member of the NRA, VFW, Konne-Yaut Indians Trap Shooting Association, University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association, was on the board of directors of the Navy League of the United States, Pittsburgh chapter, president of USS Leyte Association (CV-32), a life member of Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity of the University of Pittsburgh, an employee of Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel Company for more than 30 years and recently worked at Kaule Detective Agency. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at T.B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Hwy., North Hills, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
