Daniel Richard Stearn, 85, of McCandless, passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Wagner Stearn; father of Mary Margaret (Michael) Conto and Susan Marie (Brian) Senneway; beloved grandfather of Tessa, Christopher, Laura, Daniel, Maggie, Michelle, Chip and Tommy; and also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews. Dan served in World War II with the 509th Fighter Squadron as a radio operator. His unit campaigned in the European Theater, including Normandy, and he received numerous decorations and citations, including six Bronze Stars. Dan graduated from Duquesne University with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism; he later retired from Carnegie Mellon, Air Pollution Control Association. Dan was a member of Perrymont North AARP 2991, Perrysville AARP 3627 and the VFW Post 2754. He was a parishioner at St. Alexis Church. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, Perrysville. The funeral Mass will celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Alexis Catholic Church, Wexford.
