Charlene Gorney, age 62, of Cranberry Twp., formerly of McKees Rocks, passed away on March 10, 2023.

Charlene was born July 15, 1960 to Maryann (Vano) Gorney, and the late Charles (Jim) Gorney. Sister of Carolyn Taormina, and Christine Wardzinski. Charlene is also survived by her God-Children, numerous cousins, friends and extended family who will all miss her dearly.

Charlene obtained a Bachelor’s degree in education from Duquesne University and later on a Master’s degree from Slippery Rock University. She started her career as an itinerant special education teacher working in the Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s DART early intervention program. She visited the child’s home to evaluate and educate the young child and work directly with the parent. Additionally, Charlene was DART’s point person for the Penn Data Child Count. Charlene was a conscientious and diligent worker and a true asset to the DART program. After working for DART, she then went on to work at New Castle Youth Development Center in New Castle, PA. While there, she served as a union president where she represented her staff well. Her last position was a reading and math resource teacher with Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV in Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties. She was a professional with a kind heart. She was a good listener and problem solver. She worked with preschoolers, school-age children as well as young adults.
Charlene was a dedicated educator who worked well with staff and students.

Family and friends are welcome on Thursday from 3-7 pm at Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry, 2678 Rochester Road, Cranberry Twp. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 am at Archangel Gabriel Parish, St. Mary, Help of Christians Church with Rev. Regis Ryan officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Charlene’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
