Catherine F. (Dentici) Balestrieri, formerly of the North Side, went to her final resting place in heaven On Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the age of 93 after a long and full life. She was much loved and will be terribly missed. Catherine was the daughter of the late Anthony and Rosalia (Balistrieri) Dentici. She was the loving wife of the late Mario F. Balestrieri for over 50 years. She is survived by her children Mary C. (Jim) Vergotz, Rosalia A. Balestrieri, Christina M. (Gregory) Elnyczky, and the late Frank T. (surviving spouse Susie) Balestrieri. Also survived by sisters Anne (Ross) Ficarri, Antoinette (Richard) Matessa, and the late brother Thomas Dentici and late sister Petrina (the late Joseph) Zaffora; sister-in-law Dorothy (the late Joseph) Camarda, brother-in-law Thomas (Anna) Balestrieri, and the late sister-in laws Antoinette (Mario) Machi, Grace (Donald) Spagnolo, and Rose Balestrieri. Proud Nana (Loosh) of Jenna (Craig) Schenker and Allison (Daniel) Behrens and four wonderful great-grandchildren: Alexander Elliott Schenker, Elizabeth Marie Schenker, Marina Siena Behrens, and Leona Catherine Behrens. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Catherine was a proud immigrant from Sant’ Elia, Sicily. She grew up in West View and graduated from West View High School. She was a member of the Christian Mothers of Incarnation of the Lord Parish (Nativity Site), now known as Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish. Catherine was a founding member of the ISDA Steel City Lodge.

Family and home were the center of Catherine’s life. She proudly raised her four children and taught Rosalia independence to work outside of the home for many years. She was devoted to caring for everyone. She had a deep love of music, especially Frank Sinatra, and the theater, which has transcended into her family. Music was always in the home and the radio was always on in the kitchen.

Catherine enjoyed cooking and her many family recipes have been passed on and will be enjoyed for many years bringing many happy memories. One of our favorite activities together was making the yearly cannolis for the winter holidays; something everyone looked forward to!

Friends received Thursday and Friday 1-3 & 6-8 p.m. at Devlin Funeral Home, Inc., 806 Perry Hwy, North Hills. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, St. Athanasius Church, Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
