Carl Firetto
October 16, 2024 - July 04, 2013
Carl M. Firetto, 56, of Economy Borough, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013, in his home, after a courageous four-year battle with synovial sarcoma. Carl was the beloved husband of Cynthia (Dorencamp) for 31 years; proud father of Carla (father-in-law of Nicholas Benard) and Matthew; loving son of the late Michael and Josephine Firetto, who survives; and brother of Michael, John (Ann), Alan, Catherine and Karen (Bradley) Rosenberg. Carl is also survived by numerous cousins; nieces; nephews; and close friends. Together, Carl and Cindy were founding members of Pittsburgh Cure Sarcoma. Carl took great pride raising funds for sarcoma research as well as promoting awareness of his rare cancer. Carl loved hunting, fishing and, especially, spending time with his family. He was proud of his 30-year sales and management career at General Motors dealerships, notably at Troy-Alan Cars. He also served as president of the Pittsburgh Truck Club. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME OF CRANBERRY, 2678 Rochester Road, 724-772-8800. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, in St. Ferdinand Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to PittsburghCureSarcoma.org (Team Carl), P.O. Box 194, Gibsonia, PA 15044-0194.

Remembering Carl
Carl lives in our hearts and minds,
With all the strengths he left behind,
His big smile and his energy,
His tireless creativity,
His manly presence, perseverance,
Through the worst adversity,
And the logo that we see,
On t-shirts and on each brochure,
The Pittsburgh running family,
Striding forward for the cure,
This is a man we’ll always miss,
(But, Carl, we know you’ve found your bliss.)

My heart is heavy with the loss of Carl. I think of this quote, it is so fitting for all of us when we remember Carl
“I cannot believe that the purpose of life is to be “happy.” I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be compassionate. It is, above all, to matter and to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you lived at all.”

Carl was a great friend growing up in Harvey. We had some wonderful times together at Lowell School and Ascension Church. I was sad when he moved and am greatly saddened at his passing.
I will pray for the repose of his soul and for the comfort of his family.
