Alvin Gross

March 19, 1924 - July 15, 2002

Alvin C. Gross, age 78, of Ross Twp, died Mon, 7-15. Beloved husband of Rose Mary Rush Gross. Father of Mary Ann Gross-Sacks (Ken), David J.(Christine), Gregory P., and two grandchildren. Son of the late John and Anna Langenderfer Gross. Also survived by a brother, Herbert. Six brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Gross was born on 3-19-1924 in Swanton, Ohio, graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Economics and later recieved a Masters in Business from the University or Pittsburgh. He taught Economics at the University of Portland, Oregon, and he was a financial analyst for General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York and New York City. In 1958 he came to Pittsburgh to join Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industries as a Business Economist and later he was employed in the Marketing Department at Rockwell International. He enjoyed teaching and taught Marketing at Robert Morris College for twelve years.

Mr. Gross was a member of president of the Economic Club of Pittsburgh, a charter member of the member and chairman of the Ross Township Planning Commission and the Zoning Commission from 1980 through 1999. Mr. Gross was listed in the 71-72 edition of Who’s Who in the East and AMERICAN MEN OF SCIENCE.

He served for 18 months in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II, serving in Italy and North Africa.

Visitation Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A funeral Mass at St. John Neumann Church at Assumption, Ohio.
