Alfred Francis Anke, 88, of the Town of McCandless on September 4, 2026. Husband for 59 years of Linda B. (Croke) Anke; Loving father of Jennifer (Alan) Shuckrow of McCandless, Carrie (Eric) Zvejnieks of Pine Township and Bethany Anke of Santa Barbara, California; Proud grandfather of Zachary, Parker, Abigail and Colin; Brother of John (Diane) Anke and the late Ida Mae Owens. Also survived by many friends and relatives, particularly his brother-in-law, James (Rosita) Owens and his nieces and nephews who all enjoyed their Uncle Al. Raised on the Northside, Al attended Saint Cyril parish and grade school and North Catholic High School. He then actively served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1958, followed by several years in the reserves. After marrying Linda, Al began a career in the steel industry working for Dravo Corporation before moving to Erie, PA in the 1970s for several years. Upon returning to Pittsburgh, Al settled in McCandless and formed and operated A.F. Anke company, a trusted manufacturer’s representative for decades. As a small business owner, he always patronized other local businesses especially Pizza Roma, New York Hotdog, Adzema’s, Franklin Inn and Rico’s. Al enjoyed golfing and was a longtime member of Highland Country Club. He loved vacationing with his family, particularly at Bethany Beach. A true Pittsburgher, he was a proud Steelers ticket holder from the 1960’s, prior to Three Rivers Stadium. He also held Pitt Panther football and basketball tickets for many seasons and he spent many Friday nights attending North Allegheny Tiger games. But, most notably, Al was a generous person who enjoyed helping others in his family and in the community. He was exceedingly proud of his three accomplished daughters who he affectionately called Harry (Jennifer), Charlie (Carrie) and Herman (Bethany). Al was a well-known figure in the North Hills and will be missed by many.

We will miss Al and his friendly, smiling ways. Al and I wish we could have been there to celebrate his life today.

The Anke family was an ever present blessing to our Brighton Heights neighborhood. I remember Al courting Linda, the girl next door.
Fondly, Sheila
Hello Jennifer,
Maria and I offer our condolences. I am not sure if I met your Father, however, based upon what I just read, he was an incredible man and first and foremost a loving involved Father as evidenced by how loving, caring and fun his three daughters are. Thinking of you Jennifer. God bless.
Love,
Dow and Maria Misenhelter
