Charles B. Partee Jr., age 91, on September 14, 2025, in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. Born on September 13, 1934, in Helena, Arkansas, Charles led a remarkable life dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and the service of his faith.

He earned a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary and served a number of pastoral roles before becoming a professor at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. For most of his career, Charles served as the PC Rossin Professor of Church History at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Known for his deep engagement with Reformed tradition and his quirky wit, Partee shaped generations of students with his rigorous scholarship and approachable teaching style. He is the author of many books and articles including the landmark study “The Theology of John Calvin” and the lively and winsome “Adventure in Africa: The Story of Don McClure.”

Charles is a cherished father to Lyda (John) Osinga, Charlie (Denise) Partee, Jonathan (Sara) Partee, and Gary Partee. He is a beloved grandfather to Elizabeth O, Nathaniel, Calvin, Joel, Rebecca, Elizabeth P., and Abigail.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mabel Partee, and his beloved wife, Margaret McClure Partee.

A memorial service honoring Charles’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Hampton Presbyterian Church with a lunch to follow in the Fellowship Hall. We invite all who knew and loved Charles to join us in celebrating his life and contributions.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Theological Book Network (a program of Scholar Leaders www.scholarleaders.org) who provide theological books to third world educational institutions.
