Dr. Charles Rice, Professor of Emeritus of Slippery Rock University passed away on August 10, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving wife Ann Liedel-Rice of 50 years and his two benevolent daughters, Amy Miller (Scott) and Beth Clegg (Bill). Chuck was a compassionate grandad who adored Sophia as his only grandchild.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Edison & Pearl Rice, his oldest daughter Ellen Rice Carfano (Kevin), his first wife, mother of his children, Margaret Black. Chuck is survived by a nephew and numerous nieces and countless friends.
Chuck enlisted and proudly served his country in the U.S.
Air Force during the end of the Korean War. He had a lust for learning and earned his B.A. in Education at Clarion University, M.Ed. at the University of Indiana and a Ph. D at the University of Pittsburgh.
He enjoyed teaching and counseling his students. He was an esteemed educator who promoted high standards. His unconditional love enabled students to feel safe in becoming a fully competent educator.
Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday from 5-7 pm at Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry Township, 2678 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10 am at Divine Grace Parish, St. Ferdinand Church. Interment will follow at Holy Savior Cemetery.
