KATHLEEN WERNER MILLWARD

On May 12, 2025, Kathleen died peacefully at Sherwood Oaks Retirement Village, Cranberry, with her loving, devoted husband Bob at her side.

Born May 14, 1948 in Freedom, PA, and baptized at St. Felix, Kathleen lived a rich life of learning and teaching, writing several award-winning books for Prentice Hall, including ‘Writing Clear Paragraphs” and “Thought Provokers: Teaching History Through the Art of Robert Griffing”.

Married to Robert Millward since 1981, they shared a love of education, history, and family. Making their home at a small farm near Clymer, Indiana County, they played host to countless family gatherings, and kept an open door to friends and neighbors. The nieces, nephews and neighborhood children put on plays in the “theater” barn, played school in the springhouse school, or wandered about the fields, all under the creative and loving guidance of Kathleen.

Professionally, Kath had a deep commitment to education, teaching English and English Writing at both the Community College of Beaver County and IUP at Punxsutawney for decades. She was active in both her church and the greater community, volunteering at the then Catholic Newman Center in Indiana, the Indiana Historical Society and the Historical Society of Beaver County.

Surviving Kathleen is her husband of 43 years, Bob Millward, her brothers Ray Werner (Susan) of Pittsburgh, Bernie Werner (Suzanne) of Moon Township, dozens of nieces and nephews and dozens more great-nieces and nephews – all who knew the overabundant love and generosity of Aunt Kathleen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles “Chuck” and Pauline Werner, as well as her dear sisters Patricia “Patty” Werner and Rita Kasunic, and her big brother Larry Werner.

Kathleen attended Mount Gallitzan in Baden, PA, graduating in 1966, and Penn State University where she met her future husband. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, 349 Marris Street, Clymer, PA 15728 on May 24th at 11am.

The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Sherwood Oaks for their tender and loving care of our Kathleen. Expressions of sympathy may be offered to the family at www.devlinfuneralhome.com
