James (Jim) Charles Schmidt

August 24, 1942 - January 31, 2025

Service: Services will be private

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father. He lived a long and very prosperous life and will be greatly missed.
James (Jim) Charles Schmidt, 82, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025. He was born on August 24, 1942, to parents Max and Helen Schmidt, where he grew up in Mt. Oliver with his two brothers, Don and Max, and sister, Gerrie.
Following High School, Jim served in the US Army as a Petroleum Storage Specialist, earning a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Marksman (Rifle) Medal, and Expert (Rifle) Medal.
After his discharge from the Army, he returned to Pittsburgh, PA, where he began his career as an over-the-road truck driver.
During this time, he met the love of his life, Darthy (Dottie), and her two daughters Vicki and Pamela. Jim and Dottie were married in 1974, and they shared 42 years of marriage until Dottie’s death in 2016. He was fondly thought of by all who knew him, and he was a wonderful friend to anyone who needed a helping hand.
Jim and Dottie raised two children, Vicki (Keith) and Pamela, sharing many happy memories of their childhood, going on family vacations and celebrating holidays surrounded by extended family and friends. Saturdays were their special “nights out” with each other (no kids!). Jim and Dottie also have three grandchildren, David Lovewell, Noah and Stephen Mongiovi, and four great-grandchildren, Noah Schearer, Jabari Lee, and Eleusis and Solomon Lovewell. They also loved their two cats, Seymore and Aspie.
Jim will also be missed by his loving grand dogs, Cosmo and Abby, who were never denied sneaky table scraps and ear scratches when Pap was nearby.
Services will be private.
