Charles W. “Chuck” Schulties, 76, of Evansville, Indiana, and formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, died of heart failure on Saturday, April 21 while travelling near Bloomington, IN. He is survived by his wife, Sheila (Cantrell) Schulties; a son, Gary Schulties, of Ridgely, MD, a daughter, Kelly DeFelice, of Princeton, IN, and a son, Kipp Schulties, of Jupiter, FL. He is the beloved grandfather of eighteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is the faithful and endeared brother of Dolly Schulties of Pittsburgh, PA. He is also the former husband of Marilyn Schatzel Schulties of Newburgh, IN, and formerly of Pittsburgh, PA. After graduating from North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, Chuck received a Mining Engineering degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1957. For almost 35 years he held management and executive positions in the coal industry including Vice-President of Peabody Coal Company, President of Goodman Conveyor (Murfreesboro, TN), and, CEO and Chairman of Pyro Energy (Evansville, IN). He retired from Pyro in 1991, but remained active as a consultant and investor in various coal-related ventures. Though highly successful in the mining industry, his later years revealed a passion to be with grandchildren – a role that demanded international travel, energy, and sacrifice; and yet, no other investment generated as much return in satisfaction and joy. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation hours on Thursday, April 26, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at T.B.Devlin Funeral Home, 806 Perry Hwy, North Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012, at St. Boniface Church (Holy Wisdom Parish) at 10:00 AM. The church is located at 2208 East Street in Pittsburgh.
